Become a Sponsor
Your organization is invited to join us as a sponsor of the 2011 conference and to help shape the national student anti-hunger, poverty and homelessness movement.
For many students, this conference offers an initial entry point to anti-poverty activism. As a result, our conference has become the largest national gathering of young people working on these issues. Traditionally, 250-500 students attend this event to learn from some of the top activists, organizers, and advocates in the country. More importantly, the conference offers attendees the opportunity to network with each other and develop a more comprehensive plan of action that will keep them engaged and active throughout the year.
Our last conference, held at Loyola University in Chicago, educated and inspired more than 250 young adults from across the country to take action within their communities. For example, students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison held a widely publicized fast-a-thon to raise funds and awareness about the problems of hunger and homelessness in Southeastern Wisconsin. Through this and other events, they raised more than $18,000 to fight poverty over the course of the spring semester. At the University of Connecticut, participants worked to host a “sleep out” with other campus organizations to highlight the need for solutions to homelessness in Connecticut. Furthermore, these students have gone on to organize programs and projects with previous sponsors including Oxfam America, Bread for the World, Church World Service, National Coalition for the Homeless, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Presbyterian Hunger Program, Heifer International, and Call to Renewal.
We expect 200 - 400 students, activists and organizers from across the country to attend this fall’s gathering, which will feature workshops, issue discussions, and innovative programming ideas. Furthermore, this year’s conference will focus on some of the most pressing issues related to domestic and international poverty. The conference program will be broken into four issue tracks: Housing and Homelessness; Hunger and Food Distribution; Globalization, Development and Trade; and Domestic and International Humanitarian Crises.
The Washington, D.C. area offers an exciting and unique setting for this year’s conference and for tackling the issues of hunger and homelessness. We expect the conference to provide countless opportunities to engage young people in important campaigns and to connect them with important local and national agencies. Not only does the University of Maryland itself have a strong commitment to community service and volunteerism, but holding the conference just outside of our nation's capitol will give us a unique opportunity to shine a light on these issues and students' efforts to fight poverty. With the guidance and expertise of the National Student Campaign and our partners, this year’s conference will launch a national student effort that will mobilize young people nationwide to collectively work on some of the most pressing poverty related issues.
As a partner organization in the fight against social injustice, we invite you to participate in this year’s conference as a sponsor. Through the conference, sponsors will be able to reach the most active and effective student volunteers to introduce to their organization, involve in their programs, and recruit as interns and staff. In addition, this year’s conference will continue our launch of the Resolve to Fight Poverty campaign - a national student effort involving campuses nationwide to collectively organize a variety of community service, fundraising, educational, and grassroots advocacy activities. We sincerely hope that you will join us in this effort and help the National Student Campaign and students shape this upcoming year of action.
